Baseball Game Preview: Godby Cougars vs. Rickards Raiders

The Godby Cougars will face off against the Rickards Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Godby has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Godby managed to slip by Madison County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Godby lost 14-3 to Madison County on Friday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jaylen Roque was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Scott, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Rickards was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They came up short against Leon, falling 12-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost eight in a row.

Rickards saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jahmir Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Godby's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Rickards, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Godby has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rickards struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Godby might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Rickards when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Godby avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
