Softball Game Preview: Belton Tigers vs. Waco Lions

Belton is a perfect 7-0 against Waco since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Belton Tigers take on Waco Lions at 6:00 p.m. Belton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Belton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Ellison with a sharp 18-0 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Belton got a big performance out of Hailey Schutz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Schutz has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Iris Molina, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Schutz wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Belton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Waco was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 13-3 to University.

Tesharme Bell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abriana Ramirez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Belton's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Waco, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7-1.

Belton took their win against Waco in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 16-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
