Recap: Covenant School of Jacksonville Warriors vs. St. Johns Country Day Spartans
The Covenant School of Jacksonville Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by St. Johns Country Day on the road and fell 66-30. While losing is never fun, Covenant School of Jacksonville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while St. Johns Country Day is ranked 181st).
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Finley Johns, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Covenant School of Jacksonville struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as St. Johns Country Day racked up 14 assists.
St. Johns Country Day was led to victory by Kendall Proffitt and Mary Kate Kent. Proffitt scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Kent shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds. Kent is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 16 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Mejias, who scored eight points.
Covenant School of Jacksonville's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for St. Johns Country Day, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covenant School of Jacksonville on the road again on Tuesday and play against Eagle's View at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th. Eagle's View is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games. As for St. Johns Country Day, they will head out on the road to face off against Clay at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
