Softball Recap: Sonora Triumphs

After losing to Sunny Hills the last time they met, Sonora decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Raiders skirted past the Lancers 4-3. The game was the first time the Raiders have beaten the Lancers on their field since April 7, 2022.

Bayle Hunnicutt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brooke Piwowar was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Savannah Saiza was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

Sonora's victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Sunny Hills, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sonora is set to face off against their familiar foe La Habra at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 3.7, the Highlanders 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Sunny Hills will take on rival El Dorado at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
