Basketball Recap: South Garner's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

South Garner and Chapel Hill squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but South Garner had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Chapel Hill Tigers by a score of 63-60. The Titans' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

South Garner lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kimaya Barnes, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine assists. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last 19 games she's played. Taylor Moore was another key player, going 7-for-11 en route to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Chapel Hill was led to victory by Zoe Smith and Ashton Beale. Smith dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards, while Beale shot 50% from the field to rack up 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dezariyah Clark, who earned ten points and six boards.

South Garner's loss dropped their record down to 21-8. As for Chapel Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season.

South Garner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chapel Hill, they will face off against Rolesville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
