Football Recap: Statesville Starts off Right with Win over East Surry + How To Watch

Statesville had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the East Surry Cardinals for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-20 victory. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Greyhounds had established a 21-point advantage.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Statesville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaikoda Harrington, who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 199 yards and one TD on only 17 passes. Another rusher making a difference was Santario White, who rushed for 113 yards and one score on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Statesville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 225 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.

Statesville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Kjaceon McInnis, Isaiah Stevenson, and Isaiah Crosland picked up one apiece.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Statesville will take on West Mecklenburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Surry, they will square off against Starmount at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
