Baseball Recap: Eldred Comes Up Short

Eldred extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 1-8. They lost 11-1 to the Liberty Indians. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

As for Liberty, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

For Liberty's part, Justin Simon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Simon was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Everett Schwartz was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Zackary Alvord was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Eldred will challenge Rockland Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Liberty, they will take on Sullivan West at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.75 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
