Basketball Recap: Marathon Comes Up Short

Marathon was the 43-40 winner over Coral Shores when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Marathon Dolphins took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coral Shores Hurricanes. The Dolphins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Marathon lost on Friday, don't look at Elena Eubank. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points in addition to six assists and five boards. The game was Eubank's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Daysi Williams was another key player, putting up four points and seven steals.

Coral Shores' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was London Atkins, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 20 rebounds. With that strong performance, Atkins is now averaging an impressive 9.2 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Melanie Estevez, who scored 17 points and four steals.

Marathon now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Coral Shores, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Marathon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-34 victory against Key West on the 29th. Coral Shores has also already played their next match (against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms)), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
