Recap: Westfield Mustangs vs. Klein Cain Hurricanes
With a playoff game on the line, the Westfield Mustangs rose to the challenge on Friday. They took down the Hurricanes 55-41. The victory was familiar territory for Westfield who now have nine in a row.
Taji Atkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 403 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 16.1 yards per carry. Atkins' longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Miles Dent, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
When it comes to explaining why Klein Cain lost, one person who can't be blamed is Darius Rodgers. Despite the final result, he rushed for 262 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelon Dixon, who gained 120 total yards and three touchdowns.
Westfield's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Klein Cain, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Westfield will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Rockwall at 3:00 p.m. One thing working in Rockwall's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season. Klein Cain does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
