Baseball Recap: St. Bonaventure Comes Up Short

St. Bonaventure fell victim to Ventura and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Seraphs in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.

Aaron Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

St. Bonaventure's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Ventura, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Bonaventure will challenge Santa Barbara at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dons will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Seraphs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ventura, they are taking a road trip to square off against Royal at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
