Recap: Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones vs. R.J. Reynolds Demons

The Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against R.J. Reynolds by a score of 70-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Several Demons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elliott Jessup, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Shyla Simms was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds.

Elizabethton's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for R.J. Reynolds, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Elizabethton will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Dobyns-Bennett at 6:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Dobyns-Bennett presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Elizabethton in Tennessee (Dobyns-Bennett is ranked 103rd, while Elizabethton is ranked 237th). R.J. Reynolds is on the road again on Friday and play against Florida State University High School at 1:30 p.m. on December 22nd. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Micah Evora and Simms.
