League recap: Guyton overpowering for Ashe County in past week

2A/1A Mountain Valley league recap: 3/20/13

Cameron Guyton was the top pitcher in 2A/1A Mountain Valley this week, leading Ashe County. He retired 12 batters this week.

Jamey Cranford was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .400 average, two home runs and eight RBIs. Elkin went 3-1.

Wilkes Central stole 15 bases this week, adding to its league-leading 29 steals on the year.

Alleghany gave up the fewest hits in the league over the past week (nine), but North Wilkes has surrendered a league-fewest 32 base hits over the entire season.

There were 13 hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. They were led by Matthew Richardson, who hit 1.000 this week (3-for-3).

Houston Parks led the league with two wins this week for the Elks. He is third in the league with two wins overall this season.



Cranford was an RBI machine on Tuesday, as he knocked in seven runs during Elkin's 11-9 win over Starmount. He went 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Brandon Bradley struck out 12 in the Elks' 6-2 win over the Huskies on March 19. Over seven innings of work, he gave up five hits and two runs.
