Football Recap: Austin Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mountain View two weeks ago, Austin came back down to earth. The game between the Panthers and the Ysleta Indians didn't end well, with the Panthers falling 43-28. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Ysleta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rodrigo Martinez led the charge by rushing for 70 yards and three TDs, while also throwing for 310 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Martinez a new career-high. Martin Castro was another major influence, as he rushed for 104 yards and ran in a TD.

Austin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Ysleta, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Coincidentally, Austin and Ysleta will both be playing Fabens the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Indians will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
