Softball Recap: Marist Extends Winning Streak to Three

Marist had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Cottage Grove Lions 17-9. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 12-2 win on Tuesday.

Sophia Lydon made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Lydon was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lera Basom was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Tizita Martin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Marist now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Cottage Grove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Marist will challenge rival North Bend at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Cottage Grove is set to face off against their familiar foe Junction City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
