Football Recap: Chase Mitchell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Wetumka + How To Watch

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Weleetka, Davenport was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Wetumka Chieftains as they made off with a 52-30 victory. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 52-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Chieftains cut but never quite recovered from.

Davenport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chase Mitchell out in front who threw for 277 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt. Those 277 passing yards gave Mitchell a new career-high. Davenport's leading receiver Reece Murfin was Mitchell's top target yet again, picking up 142 receiving yards and three scores.

When it comes to explaining why Wetumka lost, don't look at Nick Taylor. Despite the final result, he picked up 140 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Taylor got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 75 yards. Wetumka also got a significant boost from Dwayne Lowe, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.

The victory got Davenport back to even at 1-1. As for Wetumka, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Davenport didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 36-32 defeat against Alex on the 19th. As for Wetumka, they have also already played their next game, a 36-28 loss against Empire on the 19th.
