Basketball Game Preview: Questa Wildcats vs. Coronado Leopards

The Questa Wildcats and the Coronado Leopards will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Questa will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Tuesday, Questa lost to Dulce at home by a 64-50 margin.

Despite their defeat, Questa saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jacovo Cardenas, who posted 13 points along with five assists and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Ortega, who scored 15 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Questa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Coronado unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against Oak Grove Classical Academy on Saturday, falling 63-19.

Questa's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Coronado, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-1.

Questa was able to grind out a solid victory over Coronado in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 46-39. Does Questa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Coronado turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
