Basketball Game Preview: Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves vs. Pekin Panthers

Winfield-Mt. Union and Pekin are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves will challenge the Pekin Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Saturday, Winfield-Mt. Union came up short against WACO and fell 51-42.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pekin). They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 74-30 blowout they got against Highland. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Pekin has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Winfield-Mt. Union, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Winfield-Mt. Union strolled past Pekin when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 55-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winfield-Mt. Union since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
