Softball Game Preview: Riverbank Bruins vs. Summerville Bears

The Riverbank Bruins will take on the Summerville Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverbank has now lost 19 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 22.

Riverbank lost 11-5 to Bret Harte on Tuesday.

Maya Guzman put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Guzman wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Arizona Navarro, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was Navarro's first of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Summerville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Big Valley Christian 4-3.

Madelyn Nikiforuk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.

Summerville's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Riverbank, their loss dropped their record down to 2-24-1.

Riverbank's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Bruins have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game.
