Basketball Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. West Johnston Wildcats

The Smithfield-Selma Spartans will square off against the West Johnston Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithfield-Selma has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 6.

Smithfield-Selma is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They lost 88-68 to Fike on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while the Demons are ranked 145th).

Meanwhile, West Johnston ended up a good deal behind East Wake on Friday and lost 47-31. The matchup marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

West Johnston has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.

Smithfield-Selma was dealt a bruising 85-49 defeat at the hands of West Johnston in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Smithfield-Selma was down 46-26.
