Softball Recap: Marlington Triumphs

Marlington had won three straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 13-5 to make it four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Minerva Lions. That's two games straight that the Dukes have won by exactly two runs.

Lydia Duncan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danica Sarchione, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chelsea Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Minerva, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly two runs.

On Minerva's side, Delaney Sell was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Marlington will be playing in front of their home fans against Archbishop Hoban at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Minerva, they will head out on the road to square off against Alliance at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
