Basketball Recap: Millbrook Drops Season-High Score on Wake Forest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Millbrook). They walked away with a 90-80 win over the Wake Forest Cougars on Tuesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Cougars are ranked 363rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Millbrook had a senior duo take command as Alonzo Hester almost dropped a double-double with 29 points and nine assists and Evan Dean went 10-for-22 en route to 29 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hester has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Watson, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Millbrook smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Wake Forest saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Lashley shot 9-for-15 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 35 points and nine boards. Those 35 points set a new season-high mark for Lashley. The team also got some help courtesy of Scott Jones, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 18 points.

Millbrook is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.0 points over those games. As for Wake Forest, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 16 of their last 17 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Coming up, Millbrook will square off against Knightdale at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Knightdale comes in on six and Millbrook on three. As for Wake Forest, they will challenge Rolesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wake Forest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.
