Baseball Recap: Cumberland Gap Sets Scoring Season-High Against Claiborne

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland Gap). They walked away with a 14-11 win over the Claiborne Bulldogs on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

On the hitting side, Cumberland Gap let Tate Murphy and Hunter Gibson run wild. Murphy scored four runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Gibson got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. With that strong performance, Murphy is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Jaden Pearman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Cumberland Gap's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Claiborne, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Coming up, Cumberland Gap will face off against Washburn at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Washburn's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Cumberland Gap's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
