Basketball Recap: Pinnacle Comes Up Short

Pinnacle and Mesa squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Pinnacle had to settle for second. The contest between the Pinnacle Pioneers and the Mesa Jackrabbits didn't end well, with the Pinnacle Pioneers falling 51-37. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Despite the loss, Pinnacle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cam Hurt went 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Hurt is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last four games he's played. Isaiah Smith was another key player, shooting 46% from the field on his way to 13 points and seven boards.

Mesa found their leader in freshman Jakyi Miles, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten rebounds. Thomas Moritz also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Pinnacle's defeat dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Mesa, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season.

Pinnacle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mesa, they are taking a road trip to face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
