Johnson Central came tearing into Saturday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Magoffin County Hornets to the tune of 68-31. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Hornets are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Johnson Central was led to victory by Brayden Shepherd and Dawson Montgomery. Shepherd went 7 of 8 on his way to 18 points, while Montgomery went 6 for 8 en route to 17 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Montgomery a new career-high in points. Austin Slone was another key player, putting up seven points and six assists.

Johnson Central pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.5 points over those games. As for Magoffin County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnson Central will challenge Blazer at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Magoffin County, they will square off against Paintsville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Paintsville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
