Baseball Recap: Northshore Extends Winning Streak to Five

Northshore waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Franklinton Demons by a score of 6-3. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jason Cutright tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Northshore let Jayden Hellmers and Derek Weilbaecher run wild. Hellmers went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Weilbaecher went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Weilbaecher is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Powell, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Northshore's record is now 5-1. As for Franklinton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Northshore will head out on the road to face off against Mandeville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Skippers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Franklinton, they will be playing at home against Kentwood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Kangaroos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Demons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
