Basketball Recap: Washington Comes Up Short

Washington has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 57-46 to the Newark Memorial Cougars, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Washington lost on Tuesday, don't look at Gianni Clark. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points and three steals. Clark is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last seven games he's played. Esean Johnson was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Newark Memorial's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jacob Libiran, who went 6 of 14 en route to 22 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Chen, who scored 12 points and five rebounds.

Washington's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Newark Memorial, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Washington has already played their next game, a 67-57 defeat against James Logan on the 24th. As for Newark Memorial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 80-39 loss against Moreau Catholic on the 24th.
