Preview: Greenwich Cardinals vs. Trumbull Eagles

Greenwich is 7-1 against Trumbull since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Greenwich Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Trumbull Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Greenwich will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Saturday, Greenwich faced Darien in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Greenwich strolled past Darien with points to spare, taking the game 30-14. Greenwich pushed the score to 30-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Darien cut but never quite recovered from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Greenwich to victory, but perhaps none more so than George Vomvolakis, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Vomvolakis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocco Grillo, who threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Trumbull got the win against Warde on Friday by a conclusive 35-13. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Trumbull.

Rowan Johnston continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 220 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Johnston is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Jake Hull made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Greenwich's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 5-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.8 points per game. Trumbull has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 3-2 record this season.

Greenwich beat Trumbull 37-24 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greenwich since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
