Baseball Recap: Columbus Victorious

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Columbus and Lincoln Northeast have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Saturday. The Discoverers won by a run and slipped past the Rockets 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Discoverers have posted since April 20, 2024.

Columbus got a great performance from Dayton Snyder as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. Snyder also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Discoverers are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Columbus' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Collin Rausch, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Columbus' victory bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Lincoln Northeast, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will face off against Lincoln Southeast at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln Northeast, they will welcome Lincoln East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Rockets surely won't give up without a fight.
