Baseball Recap: Salem Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Salem ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Cave City Cavemen 5-4. This was payback for the Greyhounds, who suffered a 7-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kamden Turner spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaiden Hollis, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Salem's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 8-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Caleb Leisenring, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base.

Salem's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Cave City, the defeat snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 14-7 record.

Salem has already played their next matchup, a 6-2 loss against Flippin on the 24th. As for Cave City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against Yellville-Summit on the 24th.
