The Woodgrove Wolverines will take on the Tuscarora Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodgrove's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Tuscarora's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Woodgrove fell victim to John Champe and their airtight pitching crew two weeks ago. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 2-0. The Wolverines' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Dane Marsh was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, John Hays made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Coltan Dezarn was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tuscarora and Heritage squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Tuscarora had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Pride by a score of 6-5.
Chas Battaglia put in work no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Brett Majkowski was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Tuscarora has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Woodgrove, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.
Woodgrove came out on top in a nail-biter against Tuscarora when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
