Basketball Recap: Yreka Comes Up Short

Yreka lost against West Valley back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Yreka Miners fell 70-58 to the West Valley Eagles. The Miners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Yreka lost, don't look at Trevan Crane. Despite the final result, he posted 19 points. The contest was Crane's third in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Brody Zediker, who earned nine points.

West Valley had a senior duo take command as Jordan Heacock almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine boards and Taiton Brimhall dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Brimhall a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Declan Morris, who scored 11 points.

Yreka's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for West Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Yreka has already played their next game, a 70-63 defeat against Lassen on the 11th. As for West Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-44 win against Anderson on the 11th.
