Basketball Recap: Mayer Falls Despite Big Games from Isabella Morales and Taylor Mccann

Mayer lost against Red Mesa back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The matchup between the Mayer Wildcats and the Red Mesa Redskins didn't end well, with the Mayer Wildcats falling 53-34. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Mayer had strong showings from Taylor McCann, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 13 points and three steals, and Isabella Morales, who posted eight points in addition to five boards and five steals. That's the most points McCann has posted since back in November of 2023.

Even though they lost, Mayer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Red Mesa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tianna Bradley, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 16 points and six steals. Bradley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Jones, who had ten points along with six boards and four blocks.

Mayer's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Red Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.

Mayer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-16 win against Rough Rock on the 28th. As for Red Mesa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 49-43 victory against Ash Fork on the 28th.
