Softball Game Preview: St. Ursula Academy Arrows vs. Mercy Marlins

St. Ursula Academy hasn't had much luck against Mercy recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Arrows will challenge the Marlins at 4:30 p.m. St. Ursula Academy has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

St. Ursula Academy is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game last Tuesday. They came up short against Lutheran North, falling 21-7.

Sydney Schlachter stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Hoffman, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Mercy entered their tilt with Lutheran North on Monday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Marlins have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Mercy's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for St. Ursula Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

St. Ursula Academy suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Mercy when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Arrows avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
