Baseball Recap: Waco Lions vs. University Trojans
Waco had lost 13 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-16 to make it 14. They lost 17-0 to the University Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 on Tuesday.
As for University, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.
For University's part, Armando Cervantez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Cervantez has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jair Galvan, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Waco will challenge rival Belton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, University is set to square off against their familiar foe Lake Belton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 3.5, the Broncos 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
