Basketball Recap: St. Andrew's Find Success

St. Andrew proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 50) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the South Pasadena Tigers, sneaking past 74-72. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted since February 10, 2024.

Jayden Buchunam was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Aydan Key, who posted 11 points along with eight assists and four steals.

St. Andrew's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

South Pasadena's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Madison, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. That's the most boards Madison has posted since back in January of 2024. Jacob Arias was another key player, going 6 for 11 on his way to 18 points and eight assists.

St. Andrew's record is now 8-4. As for South Pasadena, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-3.

St. Andrew's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-45 win against Oak Park on the 4th. As for South Pasadena, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-50 defeat against Cabrillo on the 4th.
