Football Recap: Morgan Weathersby and Cameron Page Pace Florence Defense + How To Watch

If Florence was feeling good fresh off their 28-2 takedown of Jim Hill last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles fell 39-35 to the Vicksburg Gators on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Florence lost, don't look at Kayne Ashley. Despite the final result, he threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 32 yards.

Florence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Morgan Weathersby and Cameron Page.

Vicksburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamikal Maxey out in front who threw for 217 yards and three TDs on only 16 passes. Those 217 passing yards gave Maxey a new career-high. A healthy portion of Maxey's aerial production (97 yards to be exact) went to Thomas McKnight, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Florence dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Vicksburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Florence and Vicksburg will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Eagles see the field they'll take on Cleveland Central at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Vicksburg, their break will end when they face Provine at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
