Softball Game Preview: Western Hills Wolverines vs. Estill County Engineers

The Western Hills Wolverines will square off against the Estill County Engineers at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Western Hills is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Western Hills and Franklin County meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Wolverines fell just short of the Flyers by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Wolverines have lost by just one run.

Alli Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Presely Fell was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, while Estill County put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Owsley County. The Engineers were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Owls / Lady Owls. Considering the Engineers have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Estill County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Western Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16.
