The Rigby Trojans will take on the Highland Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rigby will be strutting in after a win while Highland will be coming in after a loss.
Rigby is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Thunder Ridge, who was ranked 25th at the time (Rigby was ranked third). The Trojans blew past the Titans 3-0 on Tuesday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Rigby didn't let Thunder Ridge take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-22, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to Madison. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-9, 25-13.
Rigby will have to contain Jaycie Homer as she made an impact in Highland's last game. She had nine assists and six digs.
Highland's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Rigby, their win bumped their record up to 27-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Rigby has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Rigby's way against Highland in their previous matchup back in September, as Rigby made off with a 3-0 victory. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
