Basketball Game Preview: Leyton Warriors vs. Sedgwick County Cougars

Leyton hasn't had much luck against Sedgwick County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Leyton Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Sedgwick County Cougars. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Leyton comes in on three and Sedgwick County on six.

Leyton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Gordon-Rushville for the full four quarters, racking up an 81-34 victory. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Zaili Benish was her usual excellent self, going 13 of 22 from beyond the arc en route to 51 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Leyton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Fortune, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Sedgwick County was able to grind out a solid win over Akron on Friday, taking the game 47-40.

Sedgwick County is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Leyton, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1.

Leyton came up short against Sedgwick County when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 51-40. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sedgwick County's Abigail Dille, who went 11 for 19 on her way to 31 points and six rebounds.
