Preview: Fayette Academy Vikings vs. Friendship Christian Commanders
Fayette Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Friendship Christian Commanders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Fayette Academy at home against Harding Academy as the squad secured a 52-14 victory. The victory was just what Fayette Academy needed coming off of a 58-31 defeat in their prior contest.
It was another big night for Corbin Bowling, who rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Zane Pike also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Fayette Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Meanwhile, Friendship Christian really took it to King's Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-7 victory at home. Given Friendship Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 105th, while King's Academy is ranked 290th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tyson Wolcott continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 197 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Wolcott is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last ten games he's played. Luke Sellars was another key contributor, rushing for eight yards and a touchdown.
Fayette Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Friendship Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Fayette Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 264.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Friendship Christian struggles in that department as they've been even better at 282.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Fayette Academy came up short against Friendship Christian in their previous matchup back in November of 2018, falling 14-7. Can Fayette Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
