Baseball Recap: Dixie Heights Find Success

After losing to Batesville the last time they met, Dixie Heights decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Colonels had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 3-2 on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Colonels have won by just one run.

Kyle Flynn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has become a key player for Dixie Heights: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 6-12-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Caudill, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Oliver Linstruth was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Dixie Heights' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-12-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Batesville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Coming up, Dixie Heights will welcome Campbell County at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Batesville, they will be taking part in a tournament against Ryle at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
