Softball Game Preview: Darien Blue Wave vs. Trumbull Eagles

The Darien Blue Wave will face off against the Trumbull Eagles on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Darien is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Ridgefield. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Wave sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Vivian Knott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 18 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bella McCarthy, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Michaelson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Trumbull made easy work of Glastonbury on Wednesday and carried off a 13-2 win. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly 11 runs.

Trumbull's victory bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Darien, their win bumped their record up to 20-3.

Darien came out on top in a nail-biter against Trumbull in their previous matchup on Thursday, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Wave since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
