Basketball Recap: Niobrara/Verdigre Has No Trouble Against Wausa

Niobrara/Verdigre posted their biggest win since February 9, 2024 on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 44-19 margin over the Wausa Vikings. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Vikings are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Niobrara/Verdigre found their leader in sophomore Delani Runnels, who went 8 of 17 en route to 20 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Runnels has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Sucha, who posted eight points and ten boards.

Niobrara/Verdigre smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Niobrara/Verdigre has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Wausa, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Niobrara/Verdigre didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-31 victory against Neligh-Oakdale on the 7th. As for Wausa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 43-31 defeat against Niobrara/Verdigre on the 9th.
