Softball Recap: Baker County Triumphs

Baker County is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Middleburg on Friday, but Middleburg came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Broncos, sneaking past 3-1. Three seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Grace Masterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Peyton Shields, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Masyn Barlow, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Baker County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middleburg only managed two.

Baker County's record now sits at 6-0. As for Middleburg, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baker County will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Yulee at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Middleburg, they will take on Nease at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
