Baseball Recap: Minnesota Valley Lutheran's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Minnesota Valley Lutheran hadn't done well against Sleepy Eye recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Chargers came out on top against the Indians by a score of 8-4. The game was the first time the Chargers have beaten the Indians on their field since May 14, 2019.

Kaden Peterson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Minnesota Valley Lutheran got a big performance out of Rogan Scriver, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was Scriver's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Blake Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sleepy Eye only posted an OBP of .306.

The win snapped Minnesota Valley Lutheran's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-6 record. As for Sleepy Eye, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran will head out on the road to take on New Ulm Cathedral at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 3.6, the Greyhounds 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Sleepy Eye, they will welcome Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
