Basketball Recap: Perkins County Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Perkins County extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 12-7. They were the clear victors by a 50-30 margin over the Sutherland Sailors. The Plainsmen pushed the score to 42-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Sailors cut but never quite recovered from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Perkins County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ella Homan, who went 9-for-16 on her way to 19 points in addition to five boards and five steals. What's more, Homan also posted a 56% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in February of 2025. Another player making a difference was Madison Potts, who posted 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Perkins County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests.

As for Sutherland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Perkins County is ranked 111th).

Despite the defeat, Sutherland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bryer Brown earned nine points and five boards. Brown also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 57%. Eliana Dyer was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Coming up, Perkins County will head out on the road to square off against Bayard at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sutherland, they will welcome Maxwell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
