Taft was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Aransas Pass on Tuesday. The Greyhounds never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Greyhounds have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Josette Aparicio made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Taft let Juliana Alaniz and Jewelysa Garcia run wild. Alaniz scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Garcia scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Garcia has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daviana Mendez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Taft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aransas Pass only posted a batting average of .143.
Taft has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Aransas Pass, they dropped their record down to 6-11-1 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Taft will take on rival George West at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Aransas Pass is set to face off against their familiar foe Odem at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
