Softball Preview: Chelsea Hornets vs. American Christian Academy Patriots

Chelsea has been on the road for three straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the American Christian Academy Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Chelsea was able to grind out a solid win over Oak Mountain, taking the game 5-2.

Alaysha Crews spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

At the plate, Caroline Brown was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, American Christian Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs), and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Choctaws.

Charli Kyser and Sydney Elam were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kyser tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Elam pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Kyser has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive pitching appearances. At bat, Kyser went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Elam scored a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Naia Smith was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Raegan Morrison, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Chelsea's win bumped their record up to 13-15-3. As for American Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 18-5.
