Basketball Recap: James F. Byrnes' Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against Wade Hampton last Tuesday, James F. Byrnes came back down to earth. The James F. Byrnes Rebels fell just short of the Gaffney Indians by a score of 57-54 on Friday. The Rebels' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, James F. Byrnes still got an impressive performance from Ashlyn Evans, who posted 20 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. With that strong performance, Evans is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Makayla Barnes, who scored 11 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, James F. Byrnes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Gaffney's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shiriah Harris, who went 8 of 18 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. The contest was Harris' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Lauren Mathis was another key player, putting up 13 points and three steals.

James F. Byrnes' defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-6. As for Gaffney, their win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-1.

James F. Byrnes has already played their next game, a 70-44 victory against Spartanburg on the 4th. As for Gaffney, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-49 loss against Dorman on the 4th.
