Pine Crest hit Saint Andrew's with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Scots fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 5-4. The loss put an end to the Scots' undefeated start to the season.
Brian Bechtel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Bechtel was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Bechtel wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luccas Mendez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Spanish River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 10-1 to Westminster Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Sharks have suffered since March 14, 2025.
Zack Schwartz was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Having lost for the first time this season, Saint Andrew's fell to 2-1. As for Spanish River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Spanish River's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Saint Andrew's has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. It's a different story for Spanish River, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Saint Andrew's hitters?
